The PSR makes future patient appointments, runs a necessary schedule, checks in charts for the day's appointments and files charts in the appropriate places. The PSR makes appointments over the telephone, cupdates the schedule, and makes all schedule changes. The PSR answers all incoming phone calls in a courteous and timely manner (within three rings whenever possible). The PSR collects co-payments and other professional fees at the time of service and answers patients billing questions and directs patients to the Business Office when necessary. The PSR updates patient records and obtains demographic and financial information from new patients to create their accounts and charts. The PSR files medical record materials, pull records, and delivers them to various departments within the clinic. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department. Essential Job Functions: Greets all incoming patients in a friendly manner. Verifies and obtains demographic and financial data from the patient or their representative and updates patient record as necessary. Need to update patientinformation yearly. Verifies patient identity, scans identification card to EMR if not already present. Copies new insurance cards, and forwards patient demographics to the Business Office, along with making changes to patient record at the clinic. Observes strict patient confidentiality in dealing with patients, clinic and hospital matters. Puts charts up for nurse or provider as patients check in. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as needed. Makes all future appointments for patients. Makes appointments over the telephone. Updates the schedule and makes all schedule changes. Answers all incoming calls within three rings whenever possible. Properly routes calls that need immediate handling. Takes messages on calls to be returned and puts them with chart. Requests fees from the patient upon check in and issues a receipt. Checks and deletes all no-show and cancelled tickets. Maintains professional demeanor at all times with patients, providers and co-workers. Accurately and efficiently registers all patients. Places transcribed reports into correct record. Super bills sent to Business Office daily. Track patient visits (spreadsheet) daily. Essential Physical Demands:- Standing for long periods of time - Vision: Corrected to normal range- Sitting for long periods of time - Speaks clearly and concisely- Stooping/bending/reaching - Repetitive activity- Requires full range of body motion - Hearing: Corrected to normal range- Lifting/transferring/carrying up - Inputs/types data to 20 pounds Work Environment: Well light Air conditioned in the summer months Some exposure to communicable disease Well ventilated Noisy and crowded at times Cool and drafty in the winter months Equipment Used to Perform Job:Multi-line telephone system, computer terminal, computer printers, typewriter, copier, calculator, fax machine. Potential Job Stressors: Some exposure to verbally abusive patients, families and health care professionals. Must be able to perform several different and unrelated functions at the same time. Occasional environmental stimuli overload. Fast paced work environment. Collecting money from patients with delinquent accounts. Education:Minimum requirement of High School Diploma or GED. Licenses/Certificates: License as Medical Assistant with State Board of Medical Examiners perferred. Experience: Prefer two years customer service experience in a medical office setting. Prefer computer experience. Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information. Skill in operating a computer, calculator, telephone, photocopier and fax machine. Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
