Human Resources Assistant (Classification)

Reviews and controls all incoming documents for the Classification Branch. Provides limited technical support such as; interviews supervisors to determine whether the job content warrants the use of an IA position number or position description, reviews competitive levels. Maintains contact via telephone or email with Field personnel staff to coordinate the processing of personnel actions, position descriptions, position control list, or any other requested assistance. Types or uses keyboard to prepare OF-8s as completed 52s and position descriptions are provided by Classification Specialist or Supervisor. Is receptionist for the Classification Branch, and is responsible for processing incoming mail and answering the telephone for the Personnel Division as assigned. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. Qualifications:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-04:
One (1) year of general experience; OR, Two (2) years above high school. GS-05:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level OR 4 years of education above high school. GS-06:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. GS-07:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. GS-08:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level. General
Experience:
Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized
Experience:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Knowledge of job analysis techniques and application of classification/grading principles and concepts to classify a variety of lower graded clerical and/or technical or wage board positions that have standard career patterns using standards that clearly apply or that are used repetitively for cross-series comparison. Example of Specialized Experience for the GS-06:
Knowledge of and skill in applying an extensive body of Human Resources rules, procedures and operations pertaining to position classification to assist in classifying a variety of lower graded clerical and/or technical or wage board positions that have standard career patterns using standards that clearly apply or that are used repetitively for cross-series comparison; to assign PD numbers, assign competitive levels, and to provide written justification (evaluation statements) for review of classification determinations; and to locate and retrieve classification information from OPM on the Internet. Example of Specialized Experience for the GS-07:
Provides technical assistance with development and preparation of job descriptions. Explains classification criteria and interprets advisory opinions on the classification of positions. Reviews and evaluates reorganization proposals. Gather and analyzes facts, draw conclusions and devise practical recommendations. Example of Specialized Experience for the GS-08:
Applies standardized principles and practices of position classification, analytical and evaluative techniques in gathering job information sufficient to:
conduct desk audits, review classification actions, determine correct pay category, occupational series, title, and grade levels, prepare evaluation reports, etc. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements:
Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
