Nurse Practitioner

Functions as a Licensed Independent Practitioner within the Mental Health Service Line. Uses advanced practice knowledge to assess inpatients and outpatients seen within a specialty clinic setting, specifically within the Mental Health Service Line treating patients with known or suspected mental health pathology. Demonstrates advance practice knowledge in assessment, treatment, and evaluation of a comprehensive range of psychiatric problems, emergency measures, preventative health, health promotion, prescribing of medications and treatments, ordering and interpreting laboratory data and diagnostic studies/procedures, and patient/family education. Performs initial psychiatric comprehensive evaluations on new patients, collecting information of the chief complaint, as well as applicable additional information such as past psychiatric history, past substance abuse history, medical and family histories, psychosocial histories, and treatment histories. Develops an initial treatment plan incorporating the appropriate level of expertise regarding medical and psychiatric evaluation and treatment. Manages ongoing treatment of follow-up patients, including management of required labs, medications, follow-up planning on known or suspected mental health pathology and medical pathology and consulting with other mental health and medical providers as appropriate, based upon the Nurse Practitioner's experience and delegation of duties. Care planning with physicians/providers, peers, patients, families and allied services is expected. Participates in On-Call duties to include at home call and rounding when assigned. Participates in inpatient care as requested to include both inpatient mental health and inpatient consultation. Duties include completing histories and physicals or consult notes, making rounds, recording psychiatric progress, updating and summarizing the medical records, changing patient orders as appropriate. Participates in the evaluation and treatment, as well as triaging of walk-in or add-on outpatients when needed. Provides education and counseling to patients and families regarding preventative care, newly diagnosed medical and psychiatric conditions or long-standing chronic conditions, and the use of prescribed treatments/medications. Demonstrates ability to accurately document in the patients electronic medical record for all patients. Adheres to administrative and clinical functions of the Mental Health Service Line. Completes administrative duties as assigned. Demonstrates leadership in resolving complex ethical concerns that influence mental health care delivery. Promotes a practice environment that empowers facility providers and nursing staff to execute effective compassionate outpatient care. Mentors and precepts staff as needed. Maintains personal professional growth, knowledge and skills based on current literature through self-study and attended seminars and conferences with a mental health care focus. Preferred

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Nurse Practitioners. A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The population of male and female Veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. Sioux Falls VAHCS is an interdisciplinary teaching facility, offering medical, surgical, mental health inpatient services. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, geriatrics, and transitional care. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring Veterans and objects may be required. The RN may be exposed to infected Veterans and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The RN may occasionally be exposed to Veterans who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The RN must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on Veteran needs.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
